SensitiveBeing Journals

Issue 1 - Reflections on the importance of healthy self-identity in the recovery from extreme mental illness

Wild Cornflowers in a Human Organised Garden

This first edition of the SensitiveBeing journal focuses on the reality that recovery from extreme emotional, mental health difficulty is possible and that the journey starts with supporting the sense of self.

The current practice of medicalising suffering, diagnosing illnesses rather than identifying difficulties to work on may be discouraging therapeutic journey and preventing recovery.

Existing psychiatric treatment using tranquiliser medications while having a role needs to be limited to individuals who really can't be helped in other ways.

Therapeutic psychiatry needs to start now and bringing choice into the care process could be a good beginning.
